Pupil Premium Information
The Government set out in the Coalition Agreement its commitment to tackle educational inequality via a Pupil Premium allocated to schools in addition to their budget. The Government believes that the Pupil Premium is the best way to address the current inequalities by ensuring that funding to tackle disadvantage reaches the pupils who need it most.
We know a good education is the key to improving young people’s life chances; to enable them to progress into adulthood with the skills and confidence for success. The Pupil Premium aims to provide schools with the resources with which to address inequalities in the system and raise the attainment of those pupils from low income families.
Purpose
- Pupil Premium, funding is additional to main school funding.
- Town Lane Infant School can decide how the Pupil Premium is spent since we are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within our responsibility.
- Whilst we are free to spend the Pupil Premium as we see fit, we will be held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support deprived pupils. From September 2012, we are also required to publish online information about how we have used the premium. This aims to ensure that parents and others are made fully aware of the progress and attainment of pupils covered by the premium.
- Total funding for the Pupil Premium was £625m in 2011-12, and will rise to £2.5 billion a year by 2014-15.
- The Pupil Premium is allocated to deprived children who are currently known to be eligible for free school meals (FSM) and children who have been looked after for more than 6 months.
- From 2012-13, it has been expanded to include all children who have been eligible for FSM within the last 6 years.
- A premium has also been introduced for children whose parents are currently serving in the armed forces.
Priorities:
- To narrow the disadvantage gap by addressing inequalities and raising the attainment of those children entitled to pupil premium.
- To raise the self esteem and aspirations of children entitled to pupil premium through social, emotional support and extra curricular activities
- Close attainment gaps
- Have full access to the curriculum
- Have full access to care and guidance support
How:
Targeted additional support strategies resulting in every child, however financially disadvantaged, being able to:
