Family Activities

Town Lane infant School is a Gold Rights Respecting school, so we learn about children’s rights throughout our curriculum. We aim to make sure that all children and adults know about and have an understanding of the United Nations Rights of the Child and we teach through ‘rights’ and ‘for’ rights thus making our children feel empowered to make a difference in the world around them.
An important part of the work we are doing in school is to make sure that children are aware of their responsibilities in ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy their rights. This means that we regularly consider how our behaviour might affect or impact upon the rights of others; this may be in the classroom, out in the playground as well as in relation to global issues. We therefore have made classroom, lunchtime and playground charters which the children have discussed and agreed upon to ensure its’ success.
As part of the work we are doing, we aim to involve parents and the community as much as possible in learning about the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the child (UNCRC).
The ‘Activities’ on the document below have been designed to encourage you and your child/children to become more familiar with some of the rights, encourage children to think about why rights are important and what they mean, understand that not all children get the rights they are entitled to as well as thinking about the responsibilities that go along with having rights.
Taking into consideration families that have more than one child at school and other older children at our junior school, we have chosen activities which we hope can be completed as a family rather than each child having different activities to do. The level of discussion/debate will obviously vary depending on the age and stage of your child/children.
